Now that finals are here it is important to take a few moments out of the day to get away from the books, the outlines, and the computer. Take a few minutes to breathe and relax. While this is easier said than done, it is so important for your mental health. Self-care during finals is essential for being successful and staying on top of your game. Here are a few of my tips for having a successful finals season.
- Sleep. This so important! You need sleep to retain information and to recharge. Pulling all-nighters all of the time is not good for you. Research has proven that getting enough sleep may help your grades, so make sure you’re getting enough shut eye at night.
- Exercise. Take five minutes, a half hour, or even an hour to get some exercise. This will allow you to clear your mind and get away from the books for a short break. Take a walk, go to the gym, or hit up your favorite yoga studio.
- Eat healthy. You should try to eat as healthy as possible during finals. It is so easy to reach for the chips or order a pizza, however, you will feel better if you make a quick meal that has at least some nutritional value. Not only will this fuel your body to get you through the long hours of studying but cooking will give you a quick break to take your mind off of studying.
- Talk it out. If you’re feeling super stressed out, talk it out with someone. Call your friends, family, or go to the school’s counseling department. This may make you feel better and may help to relieve some stress.
